Search For The Needle Classes List — All Rollable Classes Explained
Every class you can roll in Search For The Needle, how 40-Gem rerolls work, and what each tier of class does for your hay-clearing speed.
Classes are Search For The Needle’s progression multiplier: roll a good one and every haystack you touch shrinks faster. The system is simple — eight classes, rolled randomly, rerolled for 40 Gems — but the odds are steep enough that knowing what to keep matters. This page covers the full class system; the companion tier list ranks the named rolls.

How does the class system work?
Your class is a random roll that modifies your hay-clearing efficiency. You start on whatever the game hands you — very often a Starter-class roll — and you can reroll at any time for 40 Gems. Gems come from codes, play and milestones; the Gems guide covers the farm.
The roll table spans eight classes arranged in rarity tiers. The tiers matter more than any single name: common rolls are weak but near-guaranteed, while ultimate-tier rolls are so rare that most players see them only after dozens of rerolls.
What are the rarity tiers?
Community tracking puts the shape of the table roughly like this:
- Starter tier — about 40%. The floor of the table. Fine for Chapter 1, replace it as soon as Gems allow.
- Mid tiers. Meaningful upgrades over Starter; keep them while you save for more rerolls.
- Drone Specialist — a notable named roll. Widely called out by players as a standout; see the tier list for why.
- Ultimate tier — around 0.1%. Rolls like Ultimate Farmer sit here. Roughly one in a thousand spins — a long-run goal, not a plan.
Exact percentages are community-measured and shift with updates; treat the in-game roll screen as the source of truth for current odds.
Which classes can you roll?
The game’s eight classes run from Starter through the ultimate rolls. Two names are firmly established in the community’s vocabulary:
- Starter — the default experience; the class you are most likely to see first.
- Ultimate Farmer — the table’s ceiling, the roll every reroll session is secretly hoping for.
- Drone Specialist — the famous middle-table roll, prized for how it changes the searching game.
The remaining five classes fill the middle tiers, and their exact lineup moves with updates. When a roll lands, the question is never “what is this called” but “is it better than what I have” — which the tier list answers.
When should I reroll my class?
Reroll when your current class is Starter-tier and you have Gems to spare — 40 per attempt, with no pity system between you and the ultimate tier. Concretely:
- Early game: redeem every code first; one code sweep funds multiple rerolls.
- Mid game: hold a mid-tier class while your Gems build, then reroll in bursts rather than one spin at a time.
- Before a chapter run: a fresh strong roll is the cheapest speed-up you can bring to Chapter 2 or Chapter 3.
Do classes stack with tools and pets?
Yes — class, tools and pets are separate multipliers on the same work. That is why the class roll is worth the Gem spend: it speeds up every tool tier you own and every pet you equip, permanently, until you reroll it away. A mediocre class with a Hay Drone still beats a great class working by hand — the systems compound rather than compete.
